Grade 1 Kanji Chart
In Japan, children learn 1,026 kanji during elementary school, and grade 1 is where it starts with just 80 simple characters: numbers, colors, body parts and basic nature words such as 山, 川 and 日. This chart lists all of them with readings, English meanings and stroke counts, in the official order of the Ministry of Education's grade table. It is ideal for absolute beginners, for parents helping children, and for teachers who need a printable handout for a first kanji lesson. The shapes are simple and the cells are large, so the sheet works well for tracing and copying by hand. Print it on A4 or US Letter paper, or save it as a PDF to share.
